Speaking to radio DZMM last Tuesday, Incoming Philippine National Police chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa stated that he will not tolerate the policemen involved in the narcotics trade. And added that he will focus on in getting rid of scalawag members of the 160,000-strong PNP.

Dela Rosa To Policemen With Drug Ties: "Stop Now Before It's Too Late!"

Even President-elect Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued statements about the three high-ranking officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) that have links with the drug trade. He stated, "Corruption must stop. Tatlong general diyan sa Crame (should) resign. Do not wait for me to name you in public because I will only humiliate you."

The PNP have also increased police operations on anti-narcotics that resulted more than 60 suspects killed and over 3,700 arrested from March 10 to June 20. Though a few people claimed that the only reason they've decided to crush drug peddlers was to attempt targets from ratting out lawmen who act as "padrinos" or protectors drug rings.

Addressing these rumors, Dela Rosa said that it cannot be helped since the PNP has made their reputation bad over the past and recent news about involved policemen to crimes.

But, Dela Rosa also asked the public to give another chance to clean up the PNP's acts. "Sana naman sa ating mga kababayan, please give your PNP a chance. Bigyan niyo ng tsansa ang ating kapulisan to prove na talagang kami'y totoong pulis ninyo na andito to serve and protect."

In exchange, he pledged to do everything he can, including a massive reshuffle of PNP personnel, just to restore the Filipino's trust in the Philippines' police.
