According to Get Real Post, NYT writers also blames the former president for his failure to crack down the drug trade and his failure to fix the slow justice system in the Philippines. Here's what New York Times had to say about the previous administration. "But the true roots of the problem can be traced to the administration of Mr. Duterte’s predecessor, Benigno Aquino III. That is because, experts say, the true cause of this kind of extrajudicial violence is the public’s loss of confidence in state institutions and its turning instead to more immediate forms of punishment and control. Mr. Aquino, elected in 2010 on promises to support the rule of law and human rights, failed to fix the Philippines’ corrupt and ineffective justice system. His administration also faced a series of security-related scandals, including a hostage crisis in Manila in 2010. And, perhaps most critical, Mr. Aquino was perceived as lazy and soft, unwilling to take the necessary steps to solve the country’s problems. Frustration with the government’s inability to provide basic security led to rising public demand for new leaders who would take more decisive action to provide security." Aside from saying that the former justice secretary received "payouts" from drug operations inside the NBP, the witnesses alleged that a gang leader supposedly "raised funds" for De Lima's planned bid for the Senate in the 2016 elections. To check these claims, we looked at De Lima's Statement of Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) submitted to the Commission on Elections after the May 2016 polls. In an ambush interview Wednesday, Alvarez said he suspected that there were “forces” who wanted to derail Sebastian’s testimony at the House justice committee investigation into the alleged Bilibid drug trade implicating Sen. Leila De Lima. “That’s sad, apparently there are forces na ayaw mag-testify si Jaybee Sebastian. Tingnan natin ung motibo kung sino yung ayaw na malaman siguro ang katotohanan,” Alvarez said. (Let’s see. Who has the motive to stop the truth from coming out) Bilibid inmates have pointed to Sebastian as De Lima’s alleged favored drug lord who collected pay-offs for the then justice secretary from the illegal drug trade at the national penitentiary. Alvarez said he found it suspicious the riot targeted the next witness to testify in the congressional investigation. “Bakit naman of all those years ngayon lang sila magpapatayan? Targeted pa yung intended resource person na na-announce ng (House) committee on justice,” Alvarez said. Asked if the riot may be connected to the House investigation, Alvarez said: “Hindi ko talaga alam, but there is always that possibility.” Just when the House planned to summon Sebastian to testify about the drug trade that allegedly raised campaign funds for De Lima, a riot ensued Wednesday morning at the maximum security compound that left Sebastian and drug lord Peter Co hurt. The riot occurred at about 7:30 a.m., when fellow inmate, convicted police officer Clarence Dongail caught inmates Peter Co, Tony Co, and Vicente Sy having a “pot session” inside their cell. Tony Co reportedly went to the cell of Sebastian and Dongail and attacked Dongail with a knife, sparking the riot. Tony Co was killed in the riot. Peter Co is in critical condition. Matobato testified on September 15 at the Senate hearing on the extrajudicial killings linked to Duterte's drug war, saying he had killed more than 50 people while he was a part of the notorious Davao Death Squad. The president called his statements mere fabrications. Since his court appearance, the witness has been kept in a safe house of a senator, guarded by former soldiers. "I'm tired of running," Matobato told Reuters. "I apologize to all the people I have wronged, those I killed." Matobato appeared relaxed in the interview. He divulged the reason why he confessed in the Senate inquiry. "My conscience is bothering me. I want to correct the mistakes and I want justice for those people," he said, referring to his victims. He also said that another reason for his move to come clean was because his former allies tried to frame him for the murder of a businessman. "I don't care if I die now, I have accepted my fate... I just don't want to go to jail. They had better kill me, hang me for all my sins." he said. He said his fate is now up to God. Duterte, since sitting as the president on June 30, has denied all accusations of his alleged involvement in vigilantism. Matobato even said that there was an instant the president himself "finished a guy off". Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre described Matobato's testimony as "lies, fabrications and a product of a fertile and a coached imagination". Matobato claimed that he never received a formal education and lived for years like a hunter preying on criminals and drug addicts. "All my life, I was like a dog being sent here and there and made to do things. I obeyed them, no questions asked. "My only appeal is spare my family," he said. Read more » Former President Benigno Aquino III binigyan ng warning si Pres.Digong Duterte !! 0 6:53:00 PM Former President Benigno Aquino III gave a warning shot to President Rodrigo Duterte before the latter assumed the position of chief executive, that he would fight should the man go for a dictatorship and throw away the freedom fought for by his martyred father. Aquino on Sept.30, 2016 in Iloilo said he was willing to die to stop the country from going back to the times of Martial Law under Marcos. “Hindi ko matatanggap na walang nangyari sa pagkamatay ng tatay ko at iba pa nating mga kababayan, libo-libo po. ‘ailangang ibuhos ko ‘yung magagawa ko. Kung buhay ko ang katapat iyon lang ang tangan sa akin, e dapat hindi ganun kaimportante ‘yung buhay ko dahil hindi ko mailalaban ‘yung ipinaglaban ng tatay ko. Hindi magkakaroon ng kabuluhan,” he said. The former president’s father, Ninoy, died in August 21, 1983 which triggered protests against the Marcos dictatorship and led to the EDSA People Power revolution. Aquino cited the words of Duterte in his April 29 interview with GMA News, which he said brought back the memories of the country’s dark days. Duterte in that interview declared that he would abolish Congress if Senator Antonio Trillanes would carry out his plan to impeach him. Duterte said: “Kapag natalo ka patay ka. Every revolution that succeeds, siya ang tigas. He now becomes the authority…Ako na ang Congress. Ako na ang Presidente.” “He’s a lawyer but I’m not. But I studied the Constitution and I challenge everyone to look into the Constitution: where is the power of President to abolish Congress? He might abolish the Supreme Court next. But look for it, there is no such right,” said Aquino. When Duterte proposed a revolutionary government, Aquino responded by saying that it would be like martial law, and at the same time, reminded him that his mother also had the same government, but the laws were approved first by the Filipinos. “My mother mother didn’t exercise powerr all by herself. She immediately came up with the 1987 Constitution which was approved by 90 percent of Filipinos,” said Aquino. He said that while still president, several sectors raised their concerns about the country’s future should a man who had no respect for women and children sit as president. He also said he was forced to apologize to the United States and Australia for the then campaigning Duterte’s remarks against the country’s allies. He said Duterte’s brusque behavior could cause trouble between the Philippines and its international allies. “Katulad ‘yung kanyang pagsasalita ay naiiba. Okay na kaya iyon? Iyon bang ganung klaseng pagsasalita magdadala ng isang kilong bigas sa kaninumang hapag? Kapag naghanap tayo ng kakampi at binati mo ng pabalagbag, ilan kaya ang kakampi sa atin? E mabigat ‘yung kalaban natin sa South China Sea,” said Aquino. MJM Source: todayinmanila Former President Benigno Aquino III binigyan ng warning si Pres.Digong Duterte !! Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has threatened the senaator that he will show a video proliferation of drugs in the New Bilibid Prison when De Lima was Justice Chair. He said the video will serve as evidence of President Rodrigo Duterte's claims against her. Inquirer let people watch the video, and described it this way: "The video, which runs for one minute and 54 seconds, shows a woman whose slight facial resemblance to De Lima is highlighted by her wearing eyeglasses while having sexual intercourse with a man with dark features that almost look like he’s black. A dog makes its presence felt by walking away from the scene near the video’s end." The news agency said that one thing about the video was curious. The woman keeps looking at the camera all throughout—as if trying to make sure her face is seen by viewers, it said. The woman's face appeared to have been purposely blurred. People reacted by claiming that the woman was most probably not De Lima. “It’s blurred. You can’t see the face. Although she has a similar build, and I saw still photos in an online post showing the face of the woman, no doubt this is younger than De Lima. Only those with poor eyesight or dirty minds will say this is Leila. This video is fake,” a businessman said. “Photoshopped or not, it can be someone else. He sustained stab wounds during the riot that ensued inside the penitentiary on Wednesday. The inquiry would go on despite Sebastian’s absence, according to Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, who is spearheading the probe on the Bilibid, since other inmates have already signed their affidavits. “It’s alright because anyway, according to Secretary Aguirre, we don’t need his testimony anymore to file a case against De Lima because Sebastian said he would just reveal information about a catering anomaly,” said Rep. Robert Ace Barbers of Surigao del Norte. He added that Santiago left behind a sterling career as a public servant and she would “be best remembered as a graft buster eating death threats for breakfast.” “As a constitutionalist, she has always been an advocate for the rule of law. Rest in peace, Madam Senator,” Duterte said. Santiago has rightfully earned the title Iron Lady of Asia. Meanwhile, the palace called the late senator a “shining light in Philippine political annals for her sharp legal mind, uncompromising stand, and acid humor.” “She had a profound influence on millennials and the youth, constantly challenging preconceived notions both political and social,” presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said. “Her passing also signals the passing of an era of politicians with wide ranging intelligence and courage to express their true conviction.” Despite being rivals during the 2016 presidential campaign, Santiago and Duterte did not exchange demeaning words with each other. Duterte was even fond of then senator. He once asked her, during a presidential debate in Pangasinan, how she was doing instead of a typical political question. Santiago then replied that she was “almost back to normal good health” because of a secret pill. “(The pill) is being sold at atrociously expensive prices. It’s a miracle worker in a sense that I am almost normal now,” Santiago said in response. “Oh come on, you’ll live for a thousand years. No doubt about it. I rest my case,” Duterte replied. NEW YORK TIMES: PHILIPPINES` EXTRAJUDICIAL VIOLENCE TRACES ROOTS TO AQUINO ADMIN 0 9:32:00 AM An article of New York Times confirmed that the roots of the problem in the Philippines that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte's facing right now can be traced to former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino. Frustration with the government’s inability to provide basic security led to rising public demand for new leaders who would take more decisive action to provide security." WATCH: Logistec Supervisor Umamin na kasabwat siya sa naganap na dayaan noong past Election sa utos ng Liberal Party 0 9:27:00 AM The IT expert said there was no Comelec official present when the tampering of the system took place. When confronted, the source said the Venezuelan admitted that the order to introduce a new script came from Marlon Garcia, project director of Smartmatic. The source said the “confrontation” had been recorded on video and audio. “The Smartmatic IT expert’s job was only to ‘receive, decrypt and distribute’ the files. Since we are also IT experts and we have been doing this since the preparation for seven months already, we knew what the Venezuelan did was something irregular. He introduced a new script, a new computer program and commands that could alter everything and supersede the existing program,” he said. He explained that the breach was confirmed when the “hash code” that was inside the transparency server was different from the hash code brought in by the Smartmatic. “The hash code inside the transparency server should be the same as the one to be inserted. We saw they’re different so we started to be suspicious and confronted the guy,” the source said. So what can you say about this one? Aside from saying that the former justice secretary received "payouts" from drug operations inside the NBP, the witnesses alleged that a gang leader supposedly "raised funds" for De Lima's planned bid for the Senate in the 2016 elections. To check these claims, we looked at De Lima's Statement of Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) submitted to the Commission on Elections after the May 2016 polls. According to her SOCE, De Lima received P86,831,095.19 in cash and in-kind contributions from a total of 114 individuals. From the amount, she spent P86,153,300.49 during the campaign period. There are lots of porn sites that feature people who look like other people. I even saw one who resembled Hillary Clinton,” explained a photographer. One found her features "indistinguishable". Leila de Lima’s alleged driver-lover Ronnie Dayan and convicted kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian, to the resumption of the hearing on the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison. On the other hand, the negations on the showing of De Lima’s alleged sex video have intensified, coming especially from women’s rights advocates and Vice President Robredo herself. However, President Rodrigo Duterte chose not to get his hands on the matter. “It’s not his territory,” said presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella. Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that the Congress won’t be forcing Sebastian to attend the hearing if his doctors would advise him not to. Several of the inmate-witnesses have testified that Dayan has received P10 million, which was delivered to De Lima’s residence by former National Bureau of Investigation deputy director Rafael Ragos and NBI agent Jovencio Ablen Jr. Source: filipinewsph House calls for Dayan and Jaybee The House of Representatives have summoned five witnesses, including Sen. Aside from saying that the former justice secretary received "payouts" from drug operations inside the NBP, the witnesses alleged that a gang leader supposedly "raised funds" for De Lima's planned bid for the Senate in the 2016 elections. He added that Santiago left behind a sterling career as a public servant and she would “be best remembered as a graft buster eating death threats for breakfast.” “As a constitutionalist, she has always been an advocate for the rule of law. Aside from saying that the former justice secretary received "payouts" from drug operations inside the NBP, the witnesses alleged that a gang leader supposedly "raised funds" for De Lima's planned bid for the Senate in the 2016 elections. He added that Santiago left behind a sterling career as a public servant and she would “be best remembered as a graft buster eating death threats for breakfast.” “As a constitutionalist, she has always been an advocate for the rule of law. Who are De Lima's 2016 poll contributors? 0 10:41:00 AM MANILA, Philippines – During a congressional probe into the prevalence of drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), a handful of prisoners who were presented as witnesses claimed that Senator Leila de Lima benefitted from the operations. Aside from saying that the former justice secretary received "payouts" from drug operations inside the NBP, the witnesses alleged that a gang leader supposedly "raised funds" for De Lima's planned bid for the Senate in the 2016 elections. Pres. He said he was being guarded, but was frustrated with his life in hiding. "It's very difficult, I can't go where I want to go. I only stay here all day." he said. "I'm tired of this life." he added. Showing of De Lima’s scandal at Congressional Hearing approved. 0 9:08:00 AM To prove the real relationship of Senator Leila De Lima and her driver and alleged driver Ronnie Dayan, lawmakers who investigated the proliferation of drug syndicates at National Bilibid Prison proposed that the video scandal allegedly involving De Lima and her alleged lover be shown at the next session. House Speaker Pantaleon Alvares said on Wednesday that he finds no problem or illegal in showing the video scandal of De Lima at the House Inquiry if that would be the only wait to confirm De Lima’s relationship with her driver. The House Speaker also denied that the goal of the proposal to play the scandal video was to shame the former Department of Justice Secretary. He believes that Senator De Lima must attend the investigation and prove in front of the lawmakers that she is not the one that involved in the video scandal. Allies of Sen. De Lima reminded the congress and Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II that showing the video is illegal. JAYBEE SEBASTIAN INAMIN ANG TAO SA LIKOD NG GUSTONG MAGPAPATAY SA KANYA 0 9:05:00 AM Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez on Wednesday said the riot at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) that hurt purported government asset Jaybee Sebastian could be linked to the House investigation into the illegal drug trade inside the national penitentiary. Matobato: I'm tired of lying, I don't care if I die 0 7:03:00 PM Edgar Matobato, the self-confessed hitman who claimed that President Rodrigo Duterte ordered people to be assassinated while sitting as Davao City mayor, said on Friday that he was tired of running, and that he is sorry for all the lives he took. He said he was being guarded, but was frustrated with his life in hiding. "It's very difficult, I can't go where I want to go. I only stay here all day." he said. "I'm tired of this life." he added. "A billionaire made a computation. Sabi niya, you know Mayor. I’ll give you the economic impact of drugs in the country, your country. And he said, this is the way how it goes. There are at least he said you claimed to be 3 million drug users and addicts. One hit daily costs around 200 or about 6,000 a month. If these users and addicts use drugs on a daily basis, that’s about 18 billion a month or around 216 billion a year. Otherwise, these monies could go to food, education, health," ani Pangulong Duterte. There are lots of porn sites that feature people who look like other people. I even saw one who resembled Hillary Clinton,” explained a photographer. One found her features "indistinguishable". Most people claimed that the video was pure fake. House calls for Dayan and Jaybee 0 9:35:00 AM The House of Representatives have summoned five witnesses, including Sen.
